Plays

Since any play is essentially a conversation or series of conversations, if only with oneself, they give the playwright an opportunity to explore ideas and to play with structure and narrative with a freedom that would render a written book indigestible to the reader. A living audience is more open to experimentation and gives instant feedback. This is what I like about play-writing.

These plays are all broadly in the ‘Absurdist’ style  of Samuel Beckett and Harold  Pinter.

These plays are available from YouCaxton Publications at £5 per PDF.

POO-POO MCGUIRE

Why does the mayor of Bishop’s Castle want to nuke Clun? And why does he want to marry a woman who might be his mother? Are we witnessing an emergency meeting of Bishop’s Castle Council or are we in the presence of God?
Meeting, dubious romantic possibility or religious ceremony? Our councillors must resolve things before they become incomprehensible.

THREE, TWO, ONE

Liz is married to someone but who is it? Perhaps she’s married
to Graham – or is it Brian? And why did Brian sneak down to the
kitchen in the early hours? And what’s butter got to do with it?
Two men and a woman try to work it out.

THE WEASEL’S COMPLAINT

WHO IS WHAT?

Annabel I and Freya, the Norse Goddess of Beauty, argue over precedence,  carving knives and divine right and also discuss questions of loss and gender identity – but is symbiosis possible and which one is which?
