In 1972, I was taken on by the illustrators’ agency ‘Young Artists’, based in Campden and started by John Spencer who formerly worked for Granada Publishing (I think). John saw something in the rather mad juvenile attempts at painting that I sent him as samples – he had an open mind as well as a good business brain and I thank him for it. I’ve been painting on-and-off ever since, although I find painting more laborious than writing.
